Guillaume Azoulay
In the opinion of many art experts, Guillaume Azoulay will be noted in the history books under "Modern Art". Throughout the world, Kings, Presidents and dignataries alike have collected his work. In the Musee Du Louvre alone, two different curators have selected a total of eight of his images for their collection as of this writing.
A self taught artist, Guillaume Azoulay was born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1949. His parents settled in Paris when he was ten and by the age of thirteen he was sketching and selling his drawings on the streets and planning his career as an artist.
As he met people from various parts of the world, his interest in traveling grew and when he was fourteen he left home and hitchhiked across Europe and the Middle East. His desire to see and be part of the life, history and beauty of the world took him from Copenhagen to Rome, from Lisbon to Jerusalem. The world was his university, and he became fluent in five languages. People were his main subject with their joys and pains and ways of life.
After settling for relatively brief periods in Israel, London, Monte Carlo and finally back to Paris, he moved to California in March of 1976, where he presently resides in Bell Canyon, amongst horses and riders, a familiar subject to those who are familiar with his many etchings (Azoulay is the official artist of the Kentucky Derby).
He is married to Charmaine Seal, the noted ballerina. They have three children.
