Elizabeth Asche Douglas is an exhaustively creative and versatile artist and person, as witnessed in her broad range of artistic style, media, subject matter and perspective. Ms. Douglas is equally comfortable and proficient in creating sculptures from old piano parts (as evidenced by her award winning “Desafinado”) to her astounding impressionistic inkjet entitled “Eye on the Prize” featuring Olympic medal winner Lauren Williams, to her photorealistic laser prints “White Rose” and “Orchid”.
An artist and educator, Elizabeth has a BFA in painting and design from Carnegie Mellon and an art history MA from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught in high school and college, retiring as full professor from Geneva College in 1996. Ms. Douglas’ professional exhibiting history covers 5 decades, winning numerous awards, including Jurors’ Awards in the 64th Youngstown, OH Area Artists Annual and the 2005 Appalachian Corridors Exhibition in Charleston, WV. Her work is in many private collections throughout the United States and abroad. Additionally, she has served as curator or juror for a host of art shows, and received the 2006 Service to the Arts Award from the Guild Council of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
Her talent and versatility transcends the visual arts. She is also an accomplished vocalist and pianist (Betty Douglas) and is an inductee in the Beaver County (PA) Musician’s Hall of Fame.
Ms. Douglas resides in Rochester, PA, where she is proudly known as the "First Lady of the Arts."
