Stuart Rosenthal
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in 1952, Stuart Rosenthal traces his artistic beginnings back to his childhood, crediting his father with developing his initial interest through a series of punishments that led to many hours alone in his room doodling and sketching.

However, it was not until 1978 when he joined the Air Force as a Recreation Specialist that his artistic career became “official”, when he began to learn and develop Arts and Crafts. Over the ensuing 16 years he both taught himself and assisted hobbyists in Ceramic Arts, developing air-brushing techniques in which he excelled and enjoyed. Stuart went on to run Arts and Crafts facilities at a number of Air Force bases throughout the country, culminating in the closing of Castle Air Force Base in 1995. It was at this point that he established his first studio out of his home in Merced, California, developing his slip-cast sculpted, air-brushed style of vases that has become his signature.

Fired multiple times and combining a wide variety of colors and hues bleeding together and finished in a rich high glaze, Rosenthal’s ceramics at first glance have often been mistaken for glassware. His contemporary styling includes multi-tiered vases and bowls in a series of designs including Baby Bud, Augustine, Tulips, Sitka, Oriental, Volcano and more.
