M. Winslow Raburn
Regarded as one of the industries leading Master Printmakers. M. Winslow Raburn is know for his original prints and his oils on canvas which hang in public, private and corporate collections throughout the United States.
Born in McAlester, Oklahoma in 1951, of Scottish, English, and Native American decent. Raburn grew up in more than a half dozen cities in the Midwest. He received his BFA from Emporia State University in Kansas, then went on to do graduate work at Emporia State and Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona, where he continued to study painting and printmaking. In 1979 he founded Telos Graphics Workshop, which was later to become Cimarron Fine Art Studio, and has recently formed Raburn Studio.
His prints and paintings are produced and marketed by Raburn Label, Inc. and have found a broad audience through out the United States. With a history of one man exhibitions in New York, New York; Houston, Texas; and Scottsdale, Arizona as well as group exhibitions such as the New York Art Exp, and the L.A. Expo his work has gained the attention of publishers such as the Winn Art Group. In 1986 he signed a five-year contract with the nations largest publisher. Since that time Raburn has dedicated himself to continually developing new printmaking techniques and advancing his artistic direction.
Raburn explains his style, "I'm essentially a romantic. I take the harsh reality of nature and idealize it in subject, composition, and color. The result is a vision of a place remembered, not how it exists in reality. The painting becomes a momentary nostalgic snapshot of those secret places we remember as children."
M. Winslow Raburn’s landscapes capture the brushwork style and use of light that his famous ancestor Sir Henry Raeburn was so well known for. The subject is different and the 200 years have passed, but the common passion for painting is evident.
